Fringe Benefits at Ecobuild

Ecobuild, the world’s biggest event for sustainable design, construction and the built environment, is once again opening its doors to those looking for eco ideas and products. With nearly 1,000 exhibitors, more than 41,000 attendees and over 100 seminars, last year’s Ecobuild was a roaring success and has become one of the biggest events of its kind, even having to change venues this year to allow for its growing popularity. This year’s Ecobuild is being held at London’s ExCel and will take place Tuesday 01 March – Thursday 03 March.

Ecobuild Fringe is just one of the highlights at this year’s show. Fringe brings together a variety of events from exhibitors, supporters and partners, all of which take place during Ecobuild 2011. A few things to keep an eye out for are –

On Tuesday 01 March and Thursday 03 march, The High Commission of Canada will run two timber sessions looking at the use of timber for architectural structures and mass-market low carbon solutions for homes, available now. 

Ecobuild’s chosen charity, CRASH, the construction sector’s charity for homeless people, will be launching their Red Brick Appeal and challenging Ecobuild’s exhibitors and visitors to pledge a brick and build the biggest wall possible, everyday in Ecobuild’s central boulevard. 

A series of seminars from Carpet Recycling UK features innovative developments in the re-use of carpet waste. Key areas cover eco design for recycling, trends in specification for sustainable carpets and new applications for using carpet waste as a resource. This event will take place on Thursday 03 March. 

Isover stage a competition with Architectural students worldwide to showcase their abilities to design buildings of the future to Passive House standards. A seminar featuring speeches from Roland Matzig, Zdenka Debartoli and Gerry Mitchell will take place on Tuesday 01 March and to learn more about the winning entries, come a long on Wednesday 02 March.
